Ray Gurz released a edition of 250 beautifully bound books of his poloroid photos, entitled Influence Victim this past weekend. It looks great , and there are still some copies left, hit Ray at BrokenAmerican.blogspot.com for info. Ray worked really hard to get this book to reality and I was glad to see so many people stop by to cop a copy and to congratulate him on the release.
The security was tight, as always.
but if you could get by the door, it was all love.
Geech had the inside on lock
There is alot going on in this photo. First, MRE took a bad one and dislocated his shoulder this week. I hope he gets better soon, and back to making skating look easy. Also, this is the best photo of Rays display I ended up with, it's right there, behind Mike on the left. Yeah, behind the shoe table and under that bed sheet. Sick.
After the opening the posse was thick and the sessions were popin' off all over town. I linked up with Sigafoos, Dustin, Jimmy, Nik, and Geech and had a great time. The energy was high and the skating was off the charts. Sheridan Bank had some more notches put on it and everyone in our crew got some, but nothing like Gary's FS Noseblunt with his patented steeze.
Dustin Martinez is one of the nicest people I know, and he's also one of the hardest beasts on a skateboard I know. What climbs up, must come down. Yes, this was a make.. click for full size.
Saturday May, 24th. Gian Demarchi , Ray Gurz , and I have been working toward a way to bring some more light to the local art community under the title of the Lehigh Valley Artist Network. Our first official event is May 24th and will be the release of Ray Gurz's photo book entitled INFLUENCE VICTIM at the new Homebase location. This is the first of a long list of events for the LVAN this year so stay tuned, more to come.
Saturday May 31 , If your a sneakerhead , toy collector, or even if you have ever owned sneakers or a toy, you don't want to miss this. On May 31 we will hold the Art&Sole Show at the Art&Soul Gallery. From 6pm till midnight. Yes, I mean SOLE , at SOUL. There will be a display of deadstock Nikes (thats unworn to you sleepers), vinyl toy collection, as well as custom painted Toys and Sneakers. Featuring one of the top toy customizers and one of my favorite artists Brent Nolasco , kicks from Rebellion Customs , along with myself and others. But, it doesn't stop there. Why not have a skate demo? OK, Skate demo it is, Hometeam will be in the house. You gotta eat Right? Well, lets add a BBQ to keep the vibe going. Stop out to look around, chop up some sneaker and toy talk with other collectors and customizers, have a burger and check some skating, or just get a quick introduction to the sneaker and toy culture.
I'm working toward a show of all NEW pieces at the end of this month, along with some close friends(slash)sneakerheads(slash)toy collectors(slash)customizers. I'm really excited about this one! I will be able to release more info SOON, but It's in Allentown on Saturday 31st. I've been in meetings where BBQ's and SkateDemos were being considered also, so we'll see what sticks this week I hope. I'll have all new toys, sneakers , and canvases to show. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, I was invited to display some classics over at The Hub. On May 16th I'll be joining Vince Sabo, Curtis Richter, and Doug Foulke to display some art. I really like Vince's work, he has helped me out in the past being apart of events I've hosted or helped and he's always brought heat. Flyer says free drinks for over 21 crowd and along with no cover your excuses are fading not to check it out.
My name is Josh Novak and I'm a Skateboarder from the 610. I love to paint and collect things. With this Blog I will try to pass on all the local events I can, including all skateboarding (local gossip?) , Music I'm into at the time (possible Downloads?), all the info on what art projects and shows I'm working on at the time, along with some general entertainment. I hope you all enjoy, Josh.
