As much as I try to be social with everyone, there is always one or two people that stand out as being genuine and sincere in the way they interact, I always saw that in Andy V. Over the years Andy has become a player in the game, filming video parts , getting photos, as well as school and his love of woodwork off the board. This July 2nd Andy is letting us deeper into the art of his woodworking.

If not, Ray got a call at around noon, by 7 we were at the Warehouse with TNT complete with Wife and Child, Andrew Reynolds., Spanky, Slash, Beagle One, Figgy, Luda Crooks, Phelps, Atiba, Neck Face, Sammy Baca, Hoyle, Grant Taylor, E-Man, along with Ty Evans, Mark Waters, Schmitty and More , Rocking hard.

This invite only art show, music display, was by far the darkest thing going on a Sunday night in Allentown. Held in a secret warehouse, Paul put his brain on display for select friends and family. Aside from the arrest for inciting (don't say "Fuck Off, Pigs" to Atown Police) it was a great event. I hope Paul keeps putting himself and his art out there, I'm backin it till then.

The Uncanny Crew ( Ceazer Glombgold, Ghetto, JO, Jim Kelly, and Hellfire production) have been in the lab, on the net, and on the stage the last year and the out come sounds tight. I have been able to hear the latest release and its impressive to see where they've come and to hear where they want to go. Look forward to the CD release , video for "Your Trash" and website drop as well as a rumor of possible EPs with accompanying collectable comic books. The Uncanny is sticking to the plan while putting their own spin on it. Don't just support "local" hip hop, support independent music of all types everywhere. This one just happens to come from the Valley.

Untill the site drops, stop out and see them at St.Nicks on Allen st in Allentown on April 2nd with UG ( you better not need to ask who UG is. 2 words, Cella Dwellas.) at 9:30 sharp.

This was for a show called "Cereal Killers" a couple years ago. The theme was obviously breakfast, and I chose to do my interpretation of the single serve sample packs I loved getting as a kid. There are Coco NoNo's, NoNo Loop's, Mello's, Cheapies, and all your favorites. All held together with plastic six pack rings.

This Saturday marked the beginning of spring as well as the THIRD year of Audio Dynamikz "Sight & Sound" party. The crew was out skating and coppin the free Rita's. Colbert , Gary , and I were at the warehouse prepping the easel for the nights party. And what a party it was. There were over 2000 people in the place, Kurtz grew a stash after holding the marker for a minute, lots of girls dancing wild, and Im pretty sure at one point Colbert had his hands up in the air yelling at the top of his voice every time I saw him. We locked our corner of the dance hall down and did the thing. Fun night, Thanks to Cap Cee and the Audio Dynamikz Crew for holding me down, and Colbert for helping me get up.

We knocked an hour of painting out in about 45mins. The dance floor got too packed to keep painting and Security was bummed on the canvas so we cleared it out and joined the party. My name is Andrew Po, owner of Homebase Skateshop and advocate for the Bethlehem Skateplaza. I apologize for the mass e-mail instead of reaching out to you personally.

I am reaching out to you, your organization, brand and/or website to ask for your support to help us win a $250,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. Your assistance would cost you nothing except some of your time. For those who aren't familiar with the Pepsi Refresh Project it is Pepsi's way of giving out the money they would have spent on Superbowl ads to projects that better the community.

For the Bethlehem Skateplaza it would mean opening the full version Phase 1 of our skateplaza by Summer 2010 (See attached image) as well as putting a large amount of funds into the bank for Phase 2. Phase 1 would be approxamitly 3/4's of the 43,000 sq foot project which would provide the local skateboarders- young and old, a safe, legal and quality place to persue their passion. As well as providing us as location to hold regional contests, skate lessons for the younger generations and a reason for touring pro teams to travel to Bethlehem while on the East Coast. The skateplaza is definitely opening this July but how much of it is still in question. This Pepsi Refresh grant is our biggest and best way to raise a large amount of funding before our Grand Opening deadline to build as much as possible in Phase 1 to provide the best possible facility for the skateboarders here.

After the first day of voting our project got as high as 3rd place out of over a 1000 projects on the site. We've slowly dropped to 7th place currently and I feel its mainly because our core group of voters forget they need to vote daily. To supplement our core voters I am trying to reach out to the skate, BMX, "action sports," music, streetwear, fashion and all industries that overlap with the skateboarding culture to help us expand our voter base. We can still get into the 1st or 2nd spot by the end of the month to win a grant but I really need some support beyond our own area.

Here's how anyone can help:

2) Please try and vote daily til the end of March. We have til the end of the month to get into 1st or 2nd place to win the $250,000 grant.

Even if it were just producing a sticker or hang tag to attach to your normally produced item.

Collaborations seem to be the best way in our industry to double the promotion and exposure of a product, event or cause. They also get added free exposure on other websites and blogs which is something everyone can use. I don't expect a handout from anyone in this economy but if we can work together, make some money, donate some money to a good cause and get some exposure- how is that not a win-win?

3) Please help us connect with trusted online and print media. Most of your brands and companies work with magazines like The Skateboard Mag, Thrasher, Transworld, Complex and websites like Slapmag.com, Hypebeast. Some brands and organizations have their own websites that have grown into powerful platforms to reach large amounts of people as well.

A quick posting about our cause good get us thousands of votes. A short write up or interview could help get us even more. I'd like to thank the brands and sites that have already done this for us as well.

A couple months back, Po treated some of the guys to a early holiday meal at Cherry's Caribbeans Palace. This isn't Secret Fatty, but I LOVE THE FOOD AT CHERRY'S. Her and her daughter(?) cook amazing home style Caribbean/soul food. I've eaten there a couple times and just typing this is making my mouth water thinking about the jerk season. Burns like hell, tastes like Heaven. Damn, I need to get back this week. I'll see you soon Cherry! Keep it spicy!

They knew we we're on our way and they were prepared! Fried chicks, jerk chicks (which I couldn't even get a flick of before it was gone) mac and cheese that made Kraft nervous, potato salad that you could have a picnic around, cornbread , and more. Yeah, Im going back this week.

When I first met Luke, I believe he was about 14 or 15, he kept to himself and skated (for some reason I'm remembering a helmet) around the Easton ghetto park. Over the years we have become very close, and I've watched Luke develop into a Powerhouse. Luke has the soul, passion, and drive of a true skateboarder. He is also a very opinionated man, and confident enough to stand behind it. Im proud to have Luke reppin' the 610.

5th Homebase Halloween Skate Jam 2009

This year marked the 5th Homebase halloween skate jam. After a rain delay Saturday, the weather couldn't have been better for Sunday. The theme this year was the glorious 80's and the park was a ebay collectors dream of vintage skate goods, all of them being ridden like they were made for.
The events this year included a Lost Soul Jump Ramp Rampage, The $300 finals of the Saugy Showdown(with Kyle taking the dough), the Best Trick on the gap to picnic table, and the crowd favorite as well as the sure to be seen again, Downhill Race

Friday November 6th at Homebase

The Downhill jam was my personal highlight of the day. The bridal path from the park to the lower lot is a fun way to leave. It's not the craziest hill bomb you can find, but the ruff ground,loose gravel, and leaves, make it challenging. Add in the 90 degree turn as it warms up and its a challenge. You already know it becomes style to not slow down.

In the sake of safety and fairness, heats were held instead of an all out death match. Fastest time received a bag a product. My camera failed before I could get the older guys raging it, but they could not resist a Old Man division and showed the younger guys how it's done. We stacked up at the corner and had a blast cheering and critiquing.

There was a Lost Soul Jump ramp jam. It was run super tight, Ray was in total control, it was timed, and the ramp was kept at the same place as kids tried to ollie out the park. Oh yeah, the ramp was of the best construction and easy to skate. Im pretty sure the winner got a snowboard and proceeded to have his own product toss. It was Epic,and that was serious.

On Friday We got in the cars and headed to APW Gallery in LIC to check out the Sucklord hosted auction to sell two of the return cards from most of the artists in the SWG4 Die-Cut Project. It was a pleasure to meet some of the artists and the collectors. There were big wooden/acrylic helmet cut outs done by Jason Atomic and others including the much talked about KaToPe and new acquaintance Patrick Francisco. The Sucklord's personal figure was on display as well as the customs from the SuperSuckOff 2 show last month. Suckadelic released their own series of cards in dope throwback waxpaper wrapper, featuring the Sucklord and members of The Original Villain Network. I'll try to post the pack I bought.

Huh?

What, you don't know what that is? Well earlier this year, TOPPS, yes
TOPPS the venerable institution of American Trading cards asked me to
curate a series of actual STAR WARS fucking trading cards. It was to be
part of a new set called STAR WARS GALAXY, a series of art-based Star
Wars cards. The batch that I organized were to be a ground-breaking (so
I'm told) series of die-cut sketch cards.

Sketch cards are all the rage in trading cards these days. What they are
is blank trading cards that are distributed to professional artists to
draw on. Then the actual drawings are blind packed in with the regular
cards and the collectors go nuts trying to find them all. It's very
exciting. The set I put together was a new direction for Topps for two
reasons:

1) They are die-cut in the shape of Darth Vader and Stormtrooper helmets
as opposed to the usual rectangles.

2) They asked ME of all people to draw upon my stable of underground
weirdos to do the drawings instead of their usual gang of established
professionals. The results of this experimental effort yielded a wide
ranging assortment of original, often abstract artwork that was actually
quite a hit with the fringe groups who actually care about this stuff.

NOW, we have a huge sampling of these cards up for display and auction at
APW gallery in Queens NYC. On October 2nd (this Friday) you are invited
to come out, see the work, place some bids, and get a cool buzz going with
more free beer from our pals at BEERLAO."

Ray Gurz has been down for Navigator Trucks as long as I can remember.

A couple years ago Ray asked me to help him put together a Carpenter Ant

inspired truck design. I guess the project was "filed", or I missed the mark.

Either way I wanted to post them since I was just reminded about them recently.

"The Homebase Skateshop & Source Bikeshop teams teamed up with the Phillipsburg Police Department and Norwescap for National Night Out Against Crime. The event features programs designed to heighten crime prevention and drug awareness, generate support for local anti-crime efforts and strengthen ties between the police and the community all over New Jersey."

This was not the our usual backdrop for a demo but the kids were stoked, the cops were all friendly, and all the food and drink was free. It was a fun day, but not so fun later if you ate one of the "hand packed" snowcones.

The Homies from LI made sure to creep to town during Musikfest to fully get the Valley Vibe. It was my first return to the dreaded Fest in quite a few years and I celebrated by almost being arrested for public urination. I do appreciate you guys watching out for me, I just didn't understand "Yo! Yo! Yo!" I was used to another sound.

The City of Bethlehem and the Parks Department have made the Bethlehem Skateplaza an official city project this morning.

This press release was sent to almost every facet of local, state, federal government and the White House. It will also be going to every possible skateboard, BMX and action sports related company, website, magazine, energy drink, footwear, clothing and wax brand in hopes of finding big and little dollar donations and sponsors.

Most importantly we are sending the bid out to all the reputable skatepark/plaza building companies to ensure our plans are built correctly ensuring Bethlehem has a skateplaza worth traveling from all points in the 610 for or from all over the world.

We’ve come a long way with this project but there’s still work to do. Thanks for everyone’s continued support and faith in the Bethlehem Skateplaza.

Bethlehem, Pa.; The City of Bethlehem, Pa. is now accepting construction bids for the first phase of the Bethlehem Skateplaza. The much-anticipated Skateplaza will be approximately 750 feet long and located on the Greenway in South Bethlehem. “The new standard for Skateplazas,” as it’s been called, will be a “one of a kind” venue. It will support the needs of all athletes, from the novice to the most advanced skaters and BMX riders, in a safe and natural environment.

The Skateplaza will replicate popular, well-known spots that are publicized in magazines and videos. It will bring the best of New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, London andBarcelona to Bethlehem, including obstacles typically found in streetscapes such as handrails, benches, staircases and sculptures. For non-riders, the Skateplaza will function as a passive space to watch the action, gather for fellowship or simply relax outdoors.

According to Andrew Po, one of the Skateplaza designers, “To the untrained eye, the Skateplaza will look like any other city park you might walk to or eat lunch at; to the avid skater, the Skateplaza will be a trip around the world going from one landmark spot to the next in one push.” Mayor John Callahan states, “It has been a long time in the making, but I am confident the Skateplaza will be world class and worth the wait.”

The completion of the Bethlehem Skateplaza will be the culmination of years of community input, town meetings and fundraising events. The official groundbreaking is expected mid-October. Sponsorships, donations and volunteer opportunities are available and necessary in order to complete the entire Skateplaza project.

Dustin invited Gary, Mike , Phill, and I to go see Slayer at Montage yesterday. We couldn't have hoped for better timing, we walked in 10 minutes before they took stage. The weather could have been better but the slight drizzle created a creepy feel that was perfect.

The Youth Is Getting Restless

The Valley has been Jumpin this weekend. From Skateboarding, rafting trips, to birthdays, hill bombings, and out of town guests.
The crew from Kuato Lives 2084 was in town ( What Up Guys!) but with my schedule we only passed briefly at Keck. I know the Crew kept them busy and aside from some minor car problems( like misplacing the keys) I hear they got a good view of the Valley. Check THE USUAL SUSPECTS for all the details of that trip

Sunday I headed over to Bethlehem to get some flicks for the LVAN site and a taco from La Lupita. I say taco, but if you know how to handle it you get two out of one.

We stopped by a school to warm up and it took about 3 minutes for Kyle to spot this porch gap over the bench and exactly 3 tries to ollie it.

I check the Tap everyday. When I checked in today I had the feeling I had unintentionally overlapped their coverage with my last post. After realizing I posted my pics first , I enjoyed a second look.
Now, I in no way would try to discredit a trusted media outlet such as Crailtap because when a skateboarder passes I understand facts could get flipped. This post here has both of our recent fallen heros skating Goofy footed. I have no problem with Goofy, some of my best friends are Goofy, but this misinformation must be corrected for the sake of the children. SunDaze in the City, or how we spent a rainy day eating and drinking in NY.
Gary , Ballins , and I headed to the city to spend the day and get some skating in with Colbert and Luke. Within 30 minutes of skating the drizzle became rain and we headed over the bridge to find we beat the clouds. We skated a couple spots before the rain caught up and we got stranded watching Colbert and Phil play STOOP. It's like SKATE with less runway and more windows. Once it slowed enough to walk, Colby took us to a great Korean spot close to where he helped install the latest Sol De Wit project.

We went by this spot in between meals and rain drops .

As we ate at the Korean spot the rain stopped and dried up. Until we left, then it was back to raining.
So,Colbert took us to another of his favorite work lunch spots.

It stopped raining and dried up as we were at The Pat (I'm local now). That is until we left, then it started to rain again.

LVAN First Friday at Homebase

This Friday Andy Colbert opened his solo LVAN show at Homebase, entitled "Faces & Places"
With the Back to The Banks and Manny Mania going on in NY this weekend it was a tug between people going to NY and Andy coming here. Andy drove down on Thursday to set up, then drove back to Brooklyn, worked Friday, then drove back down to Bethlehem Friday night to be at the opening. We had some room left but everyone that was there had a ball.
Andy's show is running all month, if you only know him through his skating or his sense of humor you need to see this other side.

Sunday Gary and I met MRE and Pat at the car park and headed to Jersey to meet up with the Gnarlyy Boys in Niks new hometown. We wouldn't have found any of these cutty spots without a local and it was a pleasant change from the Concrete Jungle we usually race to on a day off. Thanks for the lil tour Nik, Fun times.

After a long day at Mayfair the day before, the crew was slow to rise. Gary, Pat, Kyle, Colbert, and Phil stopped by. After some chill and movie time we headed back to Reading. I was glad to be picked up so I didn't bother to ask "Why?"

while Kyle was filming this nosegrind, Colbert bombed the hill we were on. Now, this isn't SF and Colby isn't Stranger, but HOLY SH!T. While we sat on the side of the road Colbert hauled ass past us toward the 4 lane intersection. By the time I noticed how fast he was going, I glanced up to see a RED light. I'm sure Colbert could see more then we could but a car rightfully went through the light and Colbert didn't flinch as he bombed right through it, within 6 to 8 feet of being a Ragdoll.
The Stoke of seeing my friend live while pushing the line, excited the whole crew. We were trippin. After we picked up our jaws, we couldn't stop laughing and highfiving each other as Colby kept cool. Be safe out there, but don't forget to live.

Allentown Mayfair Homebase Skate Demo 09

Mayfair has a huge history of skateboarding in Allentown, in the early 90's it was the place to be for the week. The tennis courts would get mobbed by the Valleys different skate crews, from Emmaus to Easton, With No cover charge, 2 huge tennis courts with lights, plenty of girls, and summer just around the corner, the vibe was always high.

Although the tennis courts have since been remarked and fenced in, it was great to relive Mayfair with skateboarding.
Thanks to Po for making it happen, Source Bike shop, and Chad for keeping the ramps company from 11am till we all showed after 3.

LVAN x Homebase Present: Andrew Colbert's "Faces and Places"

I first met Andy Colbert while skating at Moser Elementary School,right before filming for 'Kill The Filmer' got into full swing. After a short talk about some common friends and a good skate, We quickly became great friends. Andy and I shared a house during a exciting era. In that time Andy filmed himself a video part, finished school at Kutztown, helped bring a new appreciation of art into our house, and with his infectious laugh he quickly became a great foil to my sarcastic humor.
Andy has since gone on to graduate from Rutgers and work on multiple Sol DeWitt projects, currently on one in NYC.
Andy has always impressed me with his connection to art , From history ,to technic , his knowledge from the Guggenheim to the streets, and his willingness to share it.
From Skateboarding to Art to his current attack on the blog world , Andy embodies the term "Get Up".

I enjoy hot sauce. I mean I REALLY enjoy hot sauce. The hot sauce at the cart was SO hot I was sweating after the first bite. Thinking the spice will subside I continue to eat. A second later, tears are running down my face ,sweat off my brow, and the flavor becoming more intense. I looked at my plate as I tried to quench my mouth with a drink to no avail. Thinking I Might have ruined my plate, I look over at Phil, who looks like I feel. Without saying a word we all broke into a hot sauce induced laugh. No one wanting to complain ,all the while dying while looking at your red faced,tear filled friends. We all knew what the other has done.

This year marked the 3rd year of Backed in Black. A grip tape art show to raise funds and awareness for the South Side SkatePlaza. This was not the largest group we've had or the craziest party opening for B.I.B. but this is the third time and it will not be the last.

My sister received her Masters Degree on Friday and I was unable to attend the opening. However,I was at the shop the night before setting up with Ray and Gian, and from the look of the pics we got some last minute submissions. The more the merrier. The show runs all month so stop in to check it out yourself.

Next month we are proud to present Andrew Colbert in a solo showing. Hollapino, should be hot.

Right as I got home from work I decided to hit up Saugy with Lawrenzo to enjoy some of the sun. The park was packed and the energy was high. Colby pushed the battery to the limit, so he must have some footy here. I will continue to respectfully refer to him as Mr.Blackman till I can think of something else that is both witty and doesn't rely purely on racism to be funny. Spring on 4th Street Skate Demo / Street Fair Part One

Yesterday was Spring on Fourth St.
The City shut down New St between LaLupita and Lehigh College for Homebase and Source Bike Shop to demo it up. Cap Cee warmed up for the evening (Bring that EPMD to the AD parties), and all the local stores and restaurants had a chili cook off.
The biggest draw was the margarita special at the Funhouse. Every time I went over It was a Who's Who of local skaters. It's rad to walk around the street sippin out of both your 'ritas seeing so many rippers enjoying the day.
Why doesn't this go down once a month?

Jamal Smith was there and is one down to earth dude. He teaches and dances along with fully reppin 10DEEP. What up German?

A case of beers, some meat , some rolls, some wraps, some rude girls on whisky some juggling,and plenty of laughs. It just doesn't stop today. This was clearly the most krunk section of the day. One event down, one big buzz happening, and two events to go.

Mr. Blackman and I prepped the canvas for this Saturday's Audio Dynamikz party at Starters. When we were done for the day we dipped back to the 17th City to catch up with Geechy , Gnarly ,and Illa filming some unfinished business.

The primer was old and lumpy , but you can stretch that sh!t longer then you think.

Colbert doesn't have a working gas gauge in his car.
From what I saw, he just overfills it and lets the gas puddle up till the passenger says "What's that noise?" Whatever works for him, I guess.

We met the Homies at the Goggle Works ledge.
Colbert and I took a lap around the gallery to check it out.

Star Wars Galaxy 4 Die Cut Sketch Cards

A few months back I made a post about being lucky enough to participate in the Star Wars Galaxy 4 Die Cut Sketch Card project with Topps Cards ,Suckadelic, and about 40 other artists. This week a box of the finished product showed up at my door.

They have been available since mid February at local Targets.
A kind of funny story is ,When I first found out they had made it to the shelves I ran over to Cedar Crest Target to get my hands on some. I stood over the box like I was 10 years old, but with the mental agility of a ninja. Knowing what the die cuts look like, I knew if I felt each pack I could detect the slight separation of cards and grab the loaded packs. I felt the entire box and made 3 stacks, The "Fo Sho" pile, the "Maybe" pile, and the "Nadachance" pile.
At this point, I got a little embarrassed. I kept thinking about my friends that were excited for me and the project saying they also were coming over to get some and maybe I should leave some winners for them too. I got over it quick and grabbed 7 hot packs. I raced to the car with my booty, felt the most certain pack and opened it, Nothing. Next pack, Nothing.
I quickly realized my pack picking steeze was useless. No die cuts in any of the packs.

When I received the box I gave Adrienne the first pack to open, and out falls a die cut sketch from Sara.

Sunny Daze in the City

After working all Friday and Saturday, Sunday was primed for a day trip.
Ballins, Colbert, Gary, and myself hopped in the car for NYC.
The ride was filled with constant ball breaking, deep conversations about underground rappers, and iPhone mapping.
I guess that's every car ride I take, and this one was just as enjoyable.

"Nono Blog Local Geechybond, who's recent explosion of coverage regained him Blogroll status, has just emailed a press release to us stating he 'Broke my toe'. All of us here at KnowNo headquarters wish him a speedy recovery.."

It was a fun day of skating in Reading.
We drove around and scoped spots. Most of which were under construction.

Colbert battled rush hour and lost. One deck ran over by a car and we got kicked out so we cruised some more

Kurtz manhandled the Wallie and kyle worked it out ( check it here) till THIS "DID" EMPLOYEE decided to wake the guy at the building we were skating at to see if he was pissed we were riding.
Then she seemed confused when he wasn't concerned.
I'm petty sure she called the real cops anyway, she was chattin away on the 'talky tough. We got the last couple tries in and dipped.

Off for some slices at Maria's where Kurtz ordered 2. This is the look of disbelief when he realized, just because it was cut in half, it was still one slice.
"I ordered two. You mean I have another one coming?"

We skated by a mural that featured Colbert. When we got there he noticed someone put a band-aid on his ass.
I bet those are the pants in the painting.

Saturday Night, Jana and Mune planned a super stealth surprise party for Andy and Mike. Complete with hiding behind couches ( and under rugs ), friends ,food, and custom pinatas! By the look of them as they walked in, it was pulled off perfectly.

I feel like I've seen both these guys grow into confident Men. Both of them have been among my best friends, inspirations,and my most loyal supporters. The Valley wouldn't be the same without either of them.

There is something about First Fridays that gets a buzz going on in the Valley,

then again it could have been my crew buzzin about the All female art show opening.

But in retrospect I think it was kickin it with Geech before the opening.

Kurtz had some tickets to a auto show at Stabler.

I had visions of Lowrider cars, cars "that were featured in The Fast and Furious", bikinis, and stretch funny-cars that look like the Batmobile.

No Such Luck.

This was a waste and we knew it right away( all due respect to Kurtz for the hook up).

It was basically Lehigh Valley Auto Mile with admission.

Saturday night Audio Dynamikz Crew took over the PigPen. Armed with the 4 DJ's , 0-2-1 on lighting and video, Tug McRaw bangin the drum kit, Big Jim hitting the bongo and purcussion , Hometeam in the house, and SorcOne and myself on the Canvas. Include some battle ready breakers and Mike Panic on the photos and It was, as they say, a wrap.
Another awesome party by the ADC.
