Trench town rocked, small rant.

We went to the trench to look around yesterday,

Photobucket
Photobucket
a little skate-start recon mission that lead to a heated session on the manual pad

Photobucket
Which lead to a even more heated, and much riskier, manual rampage over the water hazard across the sunken block.
Photobucket
Then these dudes showed up and we all jammed the wall until everyone's board fell in the water at LEAST once.
It's a rad session when your skating the worst spot, with great friends, seeing everyone destroying their set-up in the water with no care but taking the next run.

The guys also killed this tree on the way out. I mean figuratively, not really killed it.  More like creatively, like a "The Giving Tree" way.  (other highlights were MRE with a 'flip to front 50 stall and Illa Villa with a flip nosestall to fakie )
"I command Thee, to landy!"

Small Rant Warning:
So I see all the unthought out, stock-cap, "Mark-ass-Buster" tags pop'n up all over town, along with the Billboards that advertise $500 rewards for convictions of Graff Writer's .
My problem used to be not with the advertisements purpose (graff is illegal, period) but the poor quality of the bilboard.  A photo of  a criminal's hands , in this case a "writer", in cuffs is a powerful statement. However it lacks impact with the blown out pixilated photo, which looks repurposed from the late 80's drug war. The plain one with the red ,black ,and white is only slightly better because you can read it.
I agree some people should chill on the "tags" but If graff is such a trouble and eye sore to the Valley, so much that a Hotline with a $500.00 reward and over a dozen billboards needed to be allocated to get the message out ( along with who knows what at the school level) Why would a company, or community  allow even a paid ad to run exploiting graff? So it is hip and attention getting? but wrong ? Unless your trying to look hip and current while advertising the new extra hour of news?

Photobucket

I'm not saying advertisers should hire street artists, I'm saying it looks like they could use some help, so Either go to school to become Ad Designers, or go buy some paste and repurpose your own Bilboard with some style, but know the unwritten rules out here. Graff is Graff, and even if I hate your wack handstyle everytime I see it , I can't hate the game. Play-on, Playa.

Art & Sole at Art & Soul

Thanks to everyone that stopped out last night for the opening of Art&Sole. It was great to see everyone and there was ALOT going on throughout the shop. From the AudioDynamkiz 4 turntables up front keeping the music going, to the live sneaker painting from Rebellion Customs, skate and sneaker videos projecting on the wall, out the back to the grill keeping the burgers flipping, the crew skating the ramps set up in the back, right down to the display of some of the most desired and collectable sneakers in the WORLD.
George and I worked at the warehouse over the last couple weeks preparing the display installation. We wheat pasted a over 50 feet x 4 feet high masonite border to hang over the sneakers. Featuring a collage of several 4 foot sneakers, boxes, and a sharpshooters dream collection of muggers. We got to Art & Soul around 10:30am (same time as the humidity) and didn't waste a second to plan, trim, and hang the background. Derek was a big help for us by transporting, providing cover from the rain while George overcame his fear of power saws, and helping make sure I didn't take a 8 foot drop to Earth. Apparently when ladders say "This is not a step" they aren't fucking around.
Thanks again to everyone that stopped out and everyone that shows continued support for the local underground art and music scene. A huge Thank You goes out to Po and HomeBase , AudioDynamikz , Rebellion Customs , George , Brent Nolasco ,and all the skaters. A very special Thank You to everyone at Art & Soul Tattoo/ Art Gallery. They have a beautiful studio and were very accommodating and helpful with us running around their spot for over 12 hours. Thank you all.
Here's the flicks I ended up with, I'll bootleg more as I see them pop up elsewhere. I wish I had a better shot of each of the wall sections and any of the toy cabinet, but the show runs for the next 2 weeks so stop by and check it out yourself if you haven't yet.

George,fine tuning during setup.
