"American trading card institution TOPPS gets radical with the new STAR
WARS GALAXY 4.

Since the release of the original STAR WARS movie in 1977, Topps has
brought the magic of the big screen to the tiny trading card, inspiring
millions of kids worldwide and defining a genre. In the following 30 plus
years, Topps has continued to push the boundaries with such innovations as
widescreen cards, foil stamps, and motion cards, evolving far beyond the
old wax paper and crappy gum packets of yesteryear.

Enter the Sketchcard. With the release of 2004's Clone Wars series, Topps
once again raised the bar by introducing 1 of 1 artist interpretations
drawn directly onto blank cards. Short packed in with the regular cards,
these are very rare, highly sought after mini works of fine art.
Sketchcards have become a collecting category unto themselves, with
websites and fan groups obsessively trying to find and catalogue each one
as their value continues to increase. Traditionally, these sketchcards
have been produced by Comic book artists, animators and fantasy
illustrators, all known artists within the Star Wars community. Until
now.

Reaching out to the vast world of street artists, toy designers, and
underground pop mutants, Topps has pushed the limits once again. With the
debut of the first die-cut sketch card, artists outside the traditional
realm of Star Wars illustration have put their own stamp on these little
canvases in the shape of Darth Vader and Stormtrooper helmets. STAR WARS
Galaxy is a radical, art-oriented collection that showcases rare and
offbeat imaginings of the Star Wars cannon. It is the perfect venue from
which to unleash this new experiment in Star Wars collecting. Star Wars
Galaxy 4 is available now in most comic and hobby shops or from Topps.com"

Corporate Plaza Allentown RIP 1994

15 years ago yesterday, Allentown lost a historic and still loved skate spot, Corporate Plaza.

"The 7-story modern office building known as Corporate Plaza was built in downtown Allentown in 1986. Many local residents regarded it as a landmark achievement in Allentown's downtown revitalization efforts. But that all changed during the early morning hours of February 23, 1994."

Located just before Hamilton on 7th street. If you skated in the Valley in the early 90's you more then likely spent your winters in Corporate Plaza's parking garage. Pre PennSkate, It was a dry spot that hid you from the elements.
The front porch had a 7 set with rounded brick ledges curling off each side primed for nose and tail. The main draw was the parking garage, Complete with a legit manny pad/ledge , small pad to ollie over , and curb cut. It was hidden from sight and only rarely would a cop roll through to kick you out. It was not uncommon to walk there in the snow, shoes and board in backpack, change your kicks and rip.
A fun place when it was filled with skaters and a scary place when you were alone.

"Today, a parking lot sits where Corporate Plaza used to be. Mayor Ed Pawlowski says what the sinkhole was to Corporate Plaza, the site's current owner is to the city of Allentown."

October 8th, 1979

I was looking for something slash cleaning today and found this clipping.

I remember this day well. That was my bike behind me.

It reminded me of Mike Panic and his newly found drive for helping people he doesn't even know.Help him raise at least $1,000 to help fight cancer, He's riding 100 miles on his bicycle in the Livestrong Challenge. Please consider donating on his behalf. Info is here.

WHERE THE HEART IS PREMIERE

You know what went down.

Almost 2 years of skating, fliming, traveling, healing, then repeating.
Nik Stain spent the hours ( sometimes days) editing the latest Hometeam offering, Where The Heart Is.
In true form, He arrived at a packed house with freshly burnt DVD just in time.
The video and all the skating in it once again stepped up the bar for the 610. Proof that these guys are not just skating, but helping push it as hard as they can.
The night was filled with skateboarding , music , raffles, and laughs.
As well as everything else going on, all money raised Saturday was giving directly to the Bethlehem SkatePlaza Fund.
It's always a pleasure to see and chill with everyone that comes out to Hometeam events, it's always great to catch up.
The heart of the Valley was most definitely in the house Saturday night.
Congratulations to Nik , Po, and Everyone involved.

I showed up around 5 and helped George and Dave pack up some bags for the nights raffles

Hank Tate was our host for the evening and handled it great. He kept it moving with some laughs for all.

The Disconnect warmed it up with a great set while everyone found seats and decided which jar to drop their tickets in
Photobucket

Tile played next, and the energy was off the charts.

Then Po had a great presentation for the future SkatePlaza.
Helping keep everyone up to speed on where we're at and assuring the Valley that this is "Real Talk"

Next it was time to pull some winners and hear some stories from the dynamic duo.
"(We told Charles)Your as weird and awkward ,and into what your into as us...you should hang with us...always." Classic.

But a raffle is not as exciting as heckling till they just say F@&K IT and throw the stuff out

The seats were filled
