School Daze

A couple years ago Po, with the help from a hip teacher, and the Hometeam, set up a skate demo for students of Cleveland Elementary School here in Allentown.
I'm pretty sure it was right before a summer vacation for the kids and they got a crash course introduction to skateboarding.
We brought some kickers and ledges to skate, and closed one of the two lanes of 9th street to make it happen.
I don't think the kids knew what to expect but they all seemed interested and were clapping and cheering when they saw something they liked. I thought it was a great day and a perfect way to introduce skating to some kids that don't get properly exposed to it. I also liked tripping on the idea of being in elementary school and seeing these dudes show up to put it down for my lunch break.
Maybe someone will comment with the exact date.

We did 2 sessions. 2nd and 4th grades, and 1st and 3rd grades.

The highlight and the MVP for the day was Tito. I'm pretty sure his mom let him call out of HIS school for the day to skate at their School. The kids connected to him instantly. The girls all loved him and everyone clapped and cheered at any attempt he made. At one point they wanted to see him ollie the clannel and were chanting " TITO , TITO, TITO, TITO!!" Even with the blur you can tell all eyes are on him.

LVAN x Homebase Present: Giancarlo DeMarchi "Love and Fear"

Friday October 3rd, The LVAN and Homebase are proud to present Giancarlo De Marchi's solo show, " Love and Fear ".

Gian is a longtime Easton artist, skateboarder , designer , collector ,teacher ,and friend. Showing with us in various forms over the years, this is Gian's time to be alone and show us what he Loves and Fears.
Gian is the man behind the famous HB black on black "skulls" deck ( and my personal favorite HB shirt, that matches.), the dope "handplant" panel at the shop, both of these classics, and the limited edition zine of his past work(catch it if you can). Gian's window display is up and running so stop by Homebase for a sneak peak and DO NOT MISS FRIDAY the 3rd!

rePOsted - Act Yo age, not Yo board size !

Po drops some good knowledge for community relations over at Homebase610.com
Here is one article, click over there for the other.

From Po-Heezy
"A quick lesson in public relations for all of us.

Now that we’re all working with the City of Bethlehem (in one way or another) to build the Bethlehem Skateplaza we need to realize that our actions are under more scrutiny than ever before. Leaving trash at spots and mouthing off to people when we’re asked to leave don’t help our image any. Right now our image in the public eye is important because we will be looking for financial support from businesses, organizations, churches and the public in general. Rubbing someone the wrong way could potentially prevent a donation from being made. That person might be a regular parent or the head of a wealthy company.

One organization skateboarders and bmxers are offending inparticular right now is the Bethlehem Steelworkers Union. If you really think about it, we do not want to upset this union . . . do you realize how much steel is involved with building a skateplaza? They could be one of our biggest allies if we work together.

Photobucket

The Steelworkers Union built a memorial dedicated to all the local steelworkers who worked and died for the company. This memorial is a shrine to these families and that needs to be respected. By riding at this memorial we are disrespecting the memories of these people and we are destroying something this organization has worked very hard to built.

The Union and the City of Bethlehem is asking all skateboarders and bmxers to please be respectful of this memorial but if people continue to ride it they will start impounding skateboards and bikes.

In exchange for our cooperation the Steelworkers Union just might help our effort to get the skateplaza built by making a financial donation and possibly donating materials to the plaza. We are also trying to find a nuetral area where skaters and bmxer’s might be able to ride legally until the plaza is built as well.

As a sign of good faith, volunteers from Homebase Skateshop and The Source Bikeshop will be working with the Steelworkers Union at the memorial to do some landscaping and clean up on Saturday morning September 27th. Anyone else that would like to participate please come support this effort. If you need commuity service hours for school- this qualifies.

35milly Flashback- More dusty then digital- Arizona / Nevada 2002

In late January 2002 a message was sent out to meet in Las Vegas. The plan was to drive from Nevada into Arizona to find and rage as many skateparks as we could. A.Mack , Steve, Brandy Rhoads , Josh from Mi., Andy Po, Phil Ballins, and myself all got to Vegas any way they could to meet up.
I arrived a day later then the rest of the crew who have already met up with my Mom and got settled ,had a night out on the town, and spent the day at Dessert Breeze skatepark a block from the house. While they were there they met my friend Maurice from previous trips( who jumped blindly into a van of 610 Homies for the weekend) and the cycle was complete when I arrived.
It was a great feeling to have Steve and my Mom pick me up from the airport knowing there is a gang of Friends, food, and Fun waiting at the house. It was a blast from the start and I've wanted to share some flicks.
I don't have pics of every park we went to. We were calling most of them by names of skaters that ripped them, I remember "Tosh" and "Trujillo" parks, along with Chandler , Paradise Valley, and about half dozen more before heading back to Vegas a couple days later.

First set of wheels we saw were under Mike Emery, He said this was his most intense Skitch ever.
